History

Early Years (2015-18)

In 2015, OkayXairen would release her debut album Xairen, a very rough cut album that shows the promise of what her music would become, however it's a very different focus on genre being more of a rap album than anything else. A song from the album would go on to become a meme in the furry community, leading to attention put on her next project Okay Okay Okay. While technically a very early version of what would become the album OkayXairen, this record leaned more into the rap sound of Xairen and was in development from October 2015 before being announced it would be renamed Xairen Is Okay in March 2016. While this was meant to be just a rename, this period very quickly developed into a rawer rock and electronic sound which she was playing with and slowly becoming obsessed with at the time. As a result, Xairen Is Okay shares very little sound wise with Okay Okay Okay, even though it shares half of its tracklist technically the songs were completely transformed with only lyrics and basic melodies in common. This means that Okay Okay Okay and Xairen Is Okay are both considered different unreleased albums. By the time Xairen Is Okay was renamed yet again to OkayXairen in November 2016, most of the holdovers from the initial batch of songs had been scrapped and the rock sound was pushed back for some of that electronic sound. OkayXairen would then release on February 16th, 2017, to surprising acclaim from the fandom that initially thought of her as a joke artist. The acclaim would lead to the follow up album mnkey Paw in April 2018, being a completely techno album with lyrics about the political turmoil she has had to face in her life surrounding the Trump presidency at the time.

On January 1, 2019, a surprise New Year's announcement was dropped about her next album that had been worked on for a few months already by that point called The Big Kahuna. The album is a concept album surrounding the character simply called The Big Kahuna. The album isn't one big story, rather multiple stories consisting of one or two songs each to characterize and develop this character. The first and only prerelease single, "Mama's Boys," would release to wide appraise and would begin the mainstream breakout for Xairen's music. The album released in April 13th, 2019, and another two singles, "The Girls Surrounding Him" and "They Free At Night," would be released together as they are one of the two part stories, the full two part being called "Women of the Lonely Island." "They Free At Night" quickly became a surprise smash hit, reaching 1 million plays in only a month of release. Due to the sudden rise in fame, many people started accusing Xairen of fishy practices, a very sudden rap ep would drop in June called beef ep where she would lightheartedly bash people for the weird gatekeeping critiques of her music. In November, after a short 4 month US tour, she would announce a followup album The Big Kahuna Returns, though the project didn't get very far as multiple pauses happened in the project after a month of session work. When the pandemic hit, the album would be shelved as a more pandemic focused project, the 2000s scenecore rave inspired SQUASH U LIKE A BUG dropped on June 16th, 2020. When it became clear that the pandemic would still be going strong, she very quickly brought back the shelved album, renamed it to RETURN OF THE BIG KAHUNA, and would refocus the project on two stories both told on the two parts of the album. During the new sessions, more new songs would be added to the project and the story overall would expand so much it ended up developing into a much larger story, which would then become a three part story. Instead of making a triple album, it would be decided that the first two parts would become RETURN and then the third part would be its own new album called DEATH OF THE BIG KAHUNA. RETURN would release on November 18th, 2020. The first story focuses on the aftermath of the final song of the first album in which the Kahuna left the island, which leads to power struggles between the islanders. The first side ends on a new kahuna about to be declared before suddenly the original Big Kahuna returns and takes back his power. The second part is a story focused on the new dissatisfied part of the population who were upset by the upheaval of what was about to be a new kahuna, the group being lead by who was meant to be the new kahuna. Meanwhile, the Big Kahuna is learning what all has happened since his time away as well as telling of his adventures and the things he has found to bring his people somewhere bigger and better. DEATH was originally intended as a third and final follow up part, but once again it bloated to the point it became two parts, meaning another double album and a month delay from the planned February 2021 release to March 2021, before again delaying to April 13, 2021, in order to release the same day as the original Big Kahuna album as a cute nod. The two parts follow the dissenting group ousting and then putting the Big Kahuna to death row, the island becoming an active volcano, the new leader being killed due to incompetence, and the Big Kahuna having to save everyone and get them off the island to the land he discovered before succumbing to the fires and lava consuming the island. Both albums were met with positive reception, and while not as big as the original album due to the songs being much more focused on a larger story, they both did very well for themselves.

Post-Kahuna Era (2022-)

After a big post pandemic tour called Big Kahuna's Memorial Tour, Xairen began work on her next album Phoenix, named so in reference to the previous album being about death. The album would release December 8, 2022, with good critic reviews. "Rise From Your Ashes" would become the big hit single, setting Xairen down the sounds explored in SQUASH U LIKE A BUG and becoming a breakcore rave artist. I Wanna Eat a Lockheed Martin followed up this sound, releasing March 23, 2023 made up of a miscellaneous mix of songs from the Phoenix sessions that didn't fit the album's basic theming. The Phoenix Raving Tour would start in February 2023 and go around the US and parts of Europe, before ending in Japan in November 2023. After the tour, Xairen would take a hiatus for six months to focus on other projects and life issues before announcing a new album in June 2024, First Class Techno. Planned to be released in 2025, the album is designed to resemble late 90s techno music, reminiscent of stuff like The Matrix in aesthetics.
