Jolly's Candy Extra

Jolly's Candy Extra is a subscription service for the popular candy brand Jolly's Candy, first conceptualized in 1978. According to the official Jolly's Candy website, "The service gives you access to an 100 pound worth coupon for treats of choice every month along with a once a year tour of the factory in which our sweet treats and candy was made."[1] According to public records the company raked in a total of 149,279 pounds in 2025 alone from Jolly's Candy Extra subscribers.[2]
History
In July 1978, Jolly's Candy Board member, and grandson of Ethel "Jolly" Birdwhistle, Felix Loudtly came forward with an idea he called 'Jolly's Special',[1][3] a subscription like service where subscribers could try experimental treats and candies before they hit shelf's. Initial backlash from other board members was severe, with worries of people becoming ill from candy and leaks being prevalent.[3][4] A total of 17 meetings were held, before the idea was finally shot down by President of the Company, Zachary Loudtly, in March 1980.[4]WIP
