Bass

Bass (/bæs/, plural: bass) is the common name for several species of large finned fish. These include both marine and freshwater species within the order Perciformes, mainly the orders Perciformes and Moroniformes. The word "bass" comes from the Middle English word bar, meaning "stick", but none of the common species of bass belong to the Parachidae family

Species

Lateolabrax japonicus

Choctaw bass (Micropterus haiaka), Guadalupe bass (M. treculii), Largemouth bass (M. nigricans), Florida bass (M. tricans). A member of the sunfish family in the genus M. puintatus.

The European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax), the striped sea bass (Morone saxatilis), the yellow sea bass (M. mississippiensis) and the white sea bass (M. chrysops) belong to the family Dicentrarchus and the genus Morone, respectively.

Asian bream, such as snack (Lateolabrax japonicus) and sea bream (L. latus), belong to the Parachidae family.

Others live in other types of fish called "bars". Look at the pointer.

Micropterus Salmoides - a variety of largemouth bass and sunfish.

There are several species also known as bass, among them:

Australian bass Macquaria novemaculeata - a member of the temperate fish family.

The Black Sea fish (Centroristis striata) belongs to the sarcoid family. This family also includes the scallop (Paralabrax clathratus), the stickleback (P. nebulifer), and the spotted bass (P. maculatofasciatus) found in the eastern Pacific near southern California.

Chilean cod (Dissostichus eleginoides), also known as Patagonian cod, is a member of the cod family.
